LibertyBus are working closely with Jersey Hospice Care to deliver training for their drivers, following the introduction of their new Route 6 service.

The education sessions will be run on-board one of their buses and are designed to inform staff about the work of Jersey Hospice Care and what they need to be aware of when transporting passengers who might be accessing hospice services.

Cirsty de Gruchy, Day Hospice and Therapies Services Manager at Jersey Hospice Care will be delivering the training. She said, ‘We’re delighted by the new service being offered by LibertyBus and for the opportunity to chat to their staff. Our training sessions will include information on our services for people affected by life limiting conditions, as well as more practical tips and hints on transporting patients with a disability, such as for those using portable oxygen or in a wheelchair.’

The new Route 6 service provides a vital connection between St Helier and Jersey Hospice Care. LibertyBus are keen to provide re-assurance to anyone who may have reservations about using the bus service due to their condition.

Nikki Withe, HR, Training & Community Manager for LibertyBus has said that the bus service is providing an important link to Hospice for those that are unable to drive.

“We now have a fully accessible fleet of buses to enable us to carry passengers with wheel chairs or mobility scooters. All of our staff are trained on disability awareness and these new sessions will ensure they have specific knowledge about any extra assistance passengers travelling to and from the hospice may require.”

“We want all of our customers to feel confident about using the service so they can gain greater independence and make Jersey Hospice Care more accessible.”

Media are welcome to attend the Jersey Hospice Care training sessions for photo/filming and interview opportunities. The sessions are being held at Liberation Station on Tuesday 23 October between 12:00 and 13:30.
