The Channel Islands Co-operative Society has submitted proposals to redevelop the former De La Mare florist offices and retail premises in Grouville. Subject to planning permission, the Society will develop a purpose built Locale food store compromising 484 sqm, together with 28 car parking spaces and three self-contained apartments above the store to replace existing residential accommodation.

Subject to planning permission, the Society will develop a purpose built Locale food store compromising 484 sqm, together with 28 car parking spaces and three self-contained apartments above the store to replace existing residential accommodation.
‘I am delighted we have found a site in the East of the Island where we can better service our members. It is ideally placed to meet what we have identified as a clear need for improved local convenience facilities in the Grouville community. A new Locale store will provide more choice and competition for our many members in this area,’ said Colin Macleod, Channel Islands Co-operative Society’s Chief Executive.
The proposal will put the site to a new viable use, and employ around 20 local people in full and part time employment.
‘We are committed to investing in the infrastructure and employment of the island and this development represents a significant investment in the Island’s economy. We also value that fact that islanders are passionate about environmental issues, as we are, and therefore the proposed design is a sustainable, future-proofed, environmentally efficient building that exceeds current environmental performance requirements,’ said Mr Macleod.
