In celebration of Earth Day, EY has announced sponsorships with the National Trust for Jersey and The Accidental Zoo in Guernsey.

Earth Day, which takes place annually on 22 April, gives everyone the opportunity to demonstrate support for protecting the planet and focus on the ongoing commitments they are making, both individually and collectively, to preserve the planet. The theme for 2022 is Invest In Our Planet, which EY is supporting with these latest sponsorships by continuing to take meaningful action that accelerates environmental sustainability and makes a positive social impact in the Channel Islands.

Andrew Dann, EY’s CI Managing Partner, says: “As a firm, both locally and globally, we are always looking for ways to support and amplify our commitment to sustainability. As we celebrate Earth Day, it’s a good opportunity to reflect on our ongoing commitments to preserve our planet, so we are proud to pledge our support to local charities, who are working tirelessly to help the local environment and communities to provide a more sustainable future for the next generations.”

As a corporate sponsor of the National Trust for Jersey, EY employees will support the charity over the next year by taking part in volunteering days to help the charity to play a leading role in protecting Jersey’s natural environment. EY will assist with the removal of invasive plant removal, maintenance jobs, beach cleans and meadow management. EY’s interns, who will be with the firm throughout July, will also be lending their supporting with the National Trust’s hedge planting project, the aim of which is to plant hedgerow corridors throughout the island.

Simone Springett, Fundraising and Corporate membership Officer for the National Trust for Jersey, added: “The National Trust for Jersey is delighted to welcome EY as a corporate sponsor and we very much look forward to working with the team on tasks to meet our aim of permanently protecting our wildlife and beautiful open spaces.”

In Guernsey, EY is now a bronze sponsor of The Accidental Zoo, a charity which creates opportunities for delivering education experiences in an exciting, hands on, real-life way and facilitates activities to support the long term health and wellness of the local community. As part of the sponsorship, EY employees will have the opportunity to find out how the charity supports the local community during lunch and learn sessions. Employees will also volunteer their time during the summer to support The Accidental Zoo with their projects, which will include feeding and mucking out the farm animals and tasks around the site to help maintain the facilities.

Charlotte Le Guilcher, Chief Executive of The Accidental Zoo, concluded; “The Accidental Zoo provides innovative nature-based solutions to support adult mental health and wellbeing and children’s learning experiences. We are thrilled to work with EY in 2022 as their sponsorship will enable the charity to focus on engaging its rural location, outdoor spaces and range of animals to make a real difference to the lives of people living within our local community.”

These sponsorships follow on from EY’s enrolment onto ESI Monitor’s Environmental Business Operations Framework. Both Guernsey and Jersey offices are currently working towards the award as they improve their operational environment footprint. All these initiatives support EY’s global commitment of becoming net zero by 2025 and positively impact 1 billion lives by 2030.
