The Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (JOIC) has recently launched a survey entitled ‘It’s All About You’, which seeks to explore individuals' opinions and views on data privacy.

The JOIC is keen to learn about individuals’ opinions on sharing personal information, such as passport details and bank account details. The survey aims not only to gather information on data privacy views but also hopes to enhance overall awareness of the importance of data privacy.

The survey is completely confidential and all responses remain anonymous. It seeks to measure the level of awareness of The Data Protection (Jersey) Law (2018) and to understand how concerned individuals might be if certain types of their personal data were to be lost or shared without their permission.

Information Commissioner Paul Vane said: ‘Surveys like these are so important for us as a regulatory authority, as they help us to gauge overall awareness of data privacy and to understand where the data protection awareness gaps lie. The data gleaned from this survey will allow us to shape future community work. We’ll be able to map out activities to ensure we focus on the areas of data protection, where the least awareness exists. What’s more, we are asking respondents to tell us the best way we can communicate with them, to ensure our important information, guidance and support reaches them in the best way.’

The JOIC is also interested to learn how COVID has changed individuals’ awareness of how their personal information is being moved around and/or shared.

The survey is open until Tuesday 10 May 2022 and can be reached by visiting the JOIC’s website https://www.jerseyoic.org/itsallaboutyou/
