Community Savings Ltd, which operates like a credit union, providing basic account facilities, help with budgeting and, in certain circumstances, emergency funding loans, has appointed a new Trustee.

Community Savings Ltd, which operates like a credit union, providing basic account facilities, help with budgeting and, in certain circumstances, emergency funding loans, has appointed a new Trustee.

Steven Hunt, a marketing director, whose other honorary positions include chairman of the Institute of Directors' events committee and who was chairman of Crimestoppers for ten years, joins fellow trustees Allan Smith MBE, chairman of the Trustees, Colin Powell CBE, Brian Curtis MBE, David Pirouet, Carole Canavan and Gregory White.

Steven Hunt joined Community Savings Ltd in 2012 in an honorary capacity to help raise the profile of the services it offers. With his extensive marketing experience his assistance in rebranding the charity was invaluable and he has since been working with the organisation's Business Development Officer, Melanie Cavey, on various initiatives including the recent "Cash Only Challenge", for which various public figures were challenged to manage for a week on a reduced budget and without the use of credit or debit cards.

Community Savings Ltd has several hundred clients in Jersey who hold and manage their finances with the charity and who receive budgeting advice from the trained part time and volunteer staff. The charity works in tandem with other Jersey charities and States' departments who refer people to it for help.

Commenting on Mr Hunt's appointment, Allan Smith, chairman said, "We are delighted Steven Hunt has joined the Trustees of Community Savings. His marketing experience complements the other Trustees' extensive business and professional experience".

Upon being appointed as a Trustee, Mr Hunt said, "At a time when many people are struggling to manage their finances for a variety of reasons, including redundancy, illness and emergencies, I am delighted to support the charity to help raise its profile and to help seek funding so that it can continue to provide the important services that it does".
