The Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorities (The Competition Authority) has been invited to address an international audience at a major conference in Kiev, Ukraine.
The ICN Advocacy Workshop, entitled "Competition advocacy: from barriers to prosperity" will provide a platform for sharing globally recognised competition advocacy practices, which address obstacles, remove barriers to competition development and foster prosperity through promoting competition.
The Advocacy Workshop is the one of the most significant events for competition enforcement agencies this year, bringing together regulators from all over the world. Many countries are moving from a deeply rooted system of state ownership and monopolies to market-oriented economies. The conference will look at a number of key issues including competition advocacy in a digital era, engaging stakeholders, how traditional and social media can influence competition advocacy, as well as providing an opportunity for sharing best practice.
Sarah Livestro, Legal Director, and Anna Johnson, In House Counsel, will represent the Channel Islands at the conference, with an opening panel session speech delivered by Sarah Livestro about the challenges facing small jurisdictions and how The Competition Authority has designed an effective advocacy strategy to accommodate those challenges.
Sarah Livestro said, "Not only are we very honoured to have been asked to speak at this conference, it is also an opportunity to show how the Channel Islands has embraced the concept of competition and to share how we have worked with government, business and the wider community to promote fair competition to make markets work. This is an opportunity to share our knowledge with other competition regulators and to hear how other jurisdictions are developing their regulatory framework."
The conference is hosted by the Antimonopoly Committee of the Ukraine and starts on Thursday 28th February.
