Condor is launching a video challenge for local students, worth £1,000, aimed at raising awareness of environmental issues and highlighting the need to protect the Islands’ marine and coastal ecosystem.

The initiative is for those in post-compulsory education in Guernsey and Jersey who are tasked with producing short films that illustrate the consequences of and potential solutions to the problem of marine litter. This initiative forms part of the company’s own policy of continuing to reduce plastic waste and mitigate its environmental impact.

Tracy Peters, Condor’s Community Officer, said, ‘Everyone is much more aware and passionate about environmental issues these days so by linking up with local students, who are the future generation of environmentalists, they can help champion the cause for the Islands. We are would also like to see such initiatives form part of future learning programmes.’

The competition, which begins on 01 October with a closing date of 31 January 2020, sets students the challenge of filming and editing videos of up to two minutes long. Travel vouchers worth £1,000 will be awarded to the best entry in each island and the finalised footage shown onboard the company’s ships in 2020.
