Corbett Le Quesne are pleased to announce that Advocate Barbara Corbett has contributed the chapter on Jersey family law to the latest edition of Family Law, a Global Guide from Practical Law published on 28th February 2018.
This fourth comparative edition, aims to simplify and raise awareness of the issues surrounding family law in the jurisdictions which it covers. The primary objective of this comparative overview is to provide an accessible resource to family law professionals around the globe who are acting in cases with an international dimension. The areas of law covered in the book are: conflict of laws, pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements, divorce (including financial claims after overseas divorce), children (including international child abduction, parental responsibility, adoption and surrogacy), cohabitation and same-sex relationships and the different forms of family dispute resolution. The chapters also address European and international conventions and the impact that such conventions have on domestic family law. For the first time, the chapters address the thorny issue of media access and transparency in family proceedings. The book explores how the family courts in various jurisdictions manage the tension between concerns about "secret justice" and the legitimate expectations of privacy and confidentiality for the family.
This is the third time Advocate Corbett has been asked to contribute to this international family law publication, a recognition of her expertise in this important area of law.
