Jersey Library will be hosting a visit from renowned author Martin Edwards on Saturday 12 May at 4.30pm, when he will be giving a talk entitled The Golden Age of Murder.
Martin is the eighth President of the Detection Club (whose predecessors include Agatha Christie, G K Chesterton, and Dorothy L Sayers), and is also Chair of the Crime Writers’ Association; he is the only person to have held both posts at the same time.
Judith Baker, Senior Librarian, said: “We are delighted that Martin will be here to give us a fascinating insight into the golden age of detective fiction and guide us through this interesting area of literary history. His expertise on this subject and the research he has conducted make for a very informative and entertaining session.
“Classic crime fiction has an enduring worldwide appeal. This talk examines the story behind the seemingly artificial world of country house murder and bodies in libraries, and explains why the books of Agatha Christie and her colleagues said more about the real world than is usually supposed.”
Martin is the author of 18 novels, including the Lake District Mysteries and the Harry Devlin series. He is the series consultant to the British Library’s bestselling series of Crime Classics. He has also written The Story of Classic Crime in 100 Books, and the multi-award winning The Golden Age of Murder.
