JT has been confirmed as the new sponsor of the 2013/14 winter seminar series organised by the Institute of Directors, Guernsey. The theme of this year’s series will be to provide business leaders and owners with thought provoking insight and analysis around the increasingly challenging area of optimising an appropriate digital strategy.

Over a series of months, key opinion leaders and speakers will help lead IoD members and guests through debate around what is rapidly becoming one of the key communication challenges for businesses today.

The launch seminar will take place on Thursday 7th November, and will tackle  ‘Social Media: Brand builder or reputation wrecker – Should your business engage?’ This debate will aim to stimulate discussion around the continuing rise of social media and its relevance to business.  It will review the inherent risks and rewards of utilising global platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, as well as providing practical guidance on pitfalls for business leaders.

An expert panel comprising opinion leaders from across the CI includes: Jo Porritt, Founder of Crowd Media; Tim Langlois, Digital Marketing Manager at Specsavers; and Rob Moore from Channel TV, an active and independent user of social media. The discussion will be chaired by James Falla, Business Editor of the Guernsey Press.

Tamara O’Brien, Deputy Managing Director, JT (Guernsey) said the theme of these seminars is a perfect fit for JT: ‘The IOD debates are an excellent platform from which to raise issues and questions that affect all of our businesses in the Channel Islands, and none more so than digital strategy. The speed at which the digital world changes and is enabled by technology and the implications it can have for a business are phenomenal. Which is why we’ve chosen to sponsor and partner the IoD in this series to help IoD members discuss how that opportunity can be harnessed as well as review the challenges it brings especially in the area of corporate reputation management.’

The Guernsey branch of the IOD has around 750 members, representing the interests of Directors from Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm.

Rob Jones from Guernsey IOD Committee said: ‘We are delighted to be partnering with JT for the next three years as we continue to develop our Winter Seminar Series.

With Digital Strategy in a Business Environment as the underlying theme for this year’s programme, we look forward very much to working with JT and our expert panellists in delivering thought-provoking insights to our membership.’

The seminar is being held on Thursday 7th November, 12 to 2pm in the Colborne Room, Old Government House Hotel. £15 for members, £20 for non members. Contact: Tony Brassell on iodguernsey@gmail.com for further information.
