Due to current Government advice around large gatherings and the uncertainty surrounding the next few months, Durrell has made the decision to postpone the Investec Jewels of Assam ball.
This spectacular event, which is to be a celebration of Durrell’s commitment to rewilding the Assamese grasslands of India, was planned for Saturday 18 September 2021 and will now take place on 30 April 2022 at the Royal Jersey Showground.
“It is with great sadness that we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Investec Jewels of Assam ball,” says Dr Lesley Dickie, Chief Executive of Durrell. “Unfortunately, with the current restrictions in place and uncertainty around the weeks leading up to the event, we feel this is the responsible action to take. We are of course hugely disappointed but hope that our guests will look forward to a show-stopping evening of entertainment next year.”
Jewels of Assam promises to be a colourful and uplifting evening, immersing guests in the sights and sounds of India and celebrating the richness of the beautiful grasslands. The showground will be transformed to bring the incredible Indian wilderness to life. A whole evening of entertainment is planned, including an exclusive live performance from internationally acclaimed Ronan Keating as well as other exciting acts never seen in Jersey.
“The Durrell team remains committed to making this a magical celebration to raise funds for our work in India saving the world’s smallest pig – the pygmy hog – and protecting its precious grassland home,” adds Lesley. “At a time when the country faces enormous challenges, our work protecting the grasslands and supporting the communities that live there is more important than ever. We are so grateful to our sponsor, Investec, and to all our guests for their support and understanding.”
