There has been significant media coverage recently of persistent concerns from retailers and consumers about challenges relating to the retail sector in Jersey, and potential initiatives from the Minister for Economic Development and industry stakeholders to address them. The Economic Affairs Scrutiny Panel has agreed that it is time for a Review to be undertaken. With many differing opinions to be found, it is particularly interested in establishing clarity over what the challenges facing retailers are, and examining the policies that the Minister has or will implement in responding to them.

The Panel is seeking evidence from consumers and stakeholders who have views on this issue. At an appropriate but busy time for retailers and consumers, it is running an extended period of consultation between now and the New Year to try to hear from as many people as possible, fresh with Christmas shopping experiences at hand. Submissions can be emailed to the Scrutiny Office, and a series of Public Hearings will be held in the New Year with a range of stakeholders.
Further information about the Review and details of how to get in touch with the Panel can be found at www.scrutiny.gov.je.
