Enabling ground works have started in preparation for the installation of new car park equipment at Jersey Airport.

The current car park machinery has now exceeded its design, sourcing suitable equipment parts is becoming increasingly difficult and replacement costs continue to rise. The technical capability in capturing usage data with the current system is also not possible.

The works programme will see the installation of new car park barriers and swipe machines as well as the replacement of the existing pay stations. The equipment is being supplied by globally renowned specialists Hub Parking Technology, which has provided similar systems in airports across the world. Ports of Jersey will be able to collect usage data, the analysis of which may provide the opportunity for enhanced parking options and products in the future. For example, the new technology will allow the company to monitor frequency of use and average length of stay in the car parks, something that the existing system is unable to do.

Although visibly little change or impact, an additional pay machine will be installed outside in the main car park, which will allow users to access their vehicles outside of airport opening hours and effectively allow 24/7 parking access.

The work is being project managed by Ports of Jersey and the enabling works, which involves the creation of new fibre links are being undertaken by specialist local contractor Jayen, working closing alongside the IT Team at Ports of Jersey. The installation of the new parking technology will be overseen by Hub Parking Technology assited by Ports of Jersey engineering team.

The enabling works and subsequent installation of the new equipment is due to be completed by mid-November 2017.
