Essential concrete replacement works to the ‘Bravo’ taxiway at Jersey Airport are now complete and the area was reopened this morning (Friday 29.03.19) ahead of schedule and in time for the forthcoming summer period.

The works, which began in mid-January 2019, saw the removal and replacement of a section of the current concrete taxiway, west of the main aircraft parking stands. During the construction phase, Bravo taxiway was closed with aircraft diverted on and off the runway via an alternative route.

Explaining the reasons behind the works programme, Jersey Airport Director, Inez Bartolo says, “In recent years this section of taxiway had been taken out of service on numerous occasions for temporary repairs to the concrete surface, which of course impacted our airline partners by slightly increasing the time required for aircraft to taxi to and from the runway. It was decided therefore, that a more permanent solution was required before the start of the summer 2019 season. We opted to undertake the work over the winter period when traffic levels were at their lowest and therefore kept operational impact of the closure to a minimum”.

The works were undertaken by local civil construction firm Brenwall alongside Volker Fitzpatrick with the ground investigations overseen by Geomarine and Ramboll responsible for design.  A budget of £800k was allocated to the overall project, which was entirely funded by Ports of Jersey.
