This Spring, Jersey’s Atlantic Hotel plays host to two prestigious events on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th March 2014. Hotel owners Patrick and Treena Burke, in conjunction with key partners, have developed a mini festival of fine wines and champagnes to provide two exclusive experiences.
Thursday the 27th March is the date set for a bespoke Master Class and Dinner that will showcase eight different wines. Head Sommelier Sergio dos Santos will be joined by Philip Tuck, Master of Wine and Wine Director at Hatch Mansfield Agencies. Together Sergio and Philip will take guests on a tour of discovery to consider the differences between the distinctive styles of Old World and New World wines.
The Master Class will be followed by a gourmet four-course dinner, the menu for which has been designed specially by Sergio together with Executive Head Chef, Mark Jordan. Each course will be paired with a different wine and highlights include a glass of ‘2007 Beaune 1er Cru Theurons’ alongside honey roasted duck breast, compressed apple, celeriac purée and burnt apple jus.
The event on Friday 28th March is a celebration of the world-renowned Champagne House, Taittinger. Not only will guests enjoy some of the finest Taittinger Champagnes but they will also have the opportunity to meet Clovis Taittinger who will personally take them through the history of this unique and historic brand. Eldest son of Pierre Emmanuel Taittinger, President of the Champagne House, Clovis combines his role as Deputy Export Director with the responsibility of managing grape suppliers and grower relationships and will no doubt be able to offer many unique personal insights into this iconic family business.
Mark Jordan and Sergio dos Santos have again created a special menu for the evening. Along with many remarkable wine pairings guests will appreciate a glass of the 1998 ‘Comtes de Champagne’ Blanc de Blancs alongside a ravioli of Jersey chancre crab, potato and Champagne foam.
Commenting on the occasion Patrick Burke said, “We are excited to be hosting this mini festival which can only reinforce the hotel’s growing reputation for fine wines and fine food. Taittinger has long been served as The Atlantic’s house Champagne and we have enjoyed an ever closer relationship with the brand. We are thrilled that Clovis has accepted our invitation to visit Jersey, an invitation that has been reciprocated as Treena and I have now been invited to dine at the Taittinger residence in Epernay this February, a trip which will include a private visit to their cellars in Reims and allow us to further strengthen the partnership.”
