Fighting the fear of interviews!

MEDIA RELEASE: The views expressed in this article are those of the author and not Bailiwick Express, and the text is reproduced exactly as supplied to us

The Select team has met with hundreds of job seekers and arranged even more interviews and surprisingly the most common statement we hear, and this isn’t exclusive to any level or industry, is “I’m not good at selling myself in an interview.”

So why do so many candidates find interviews so hard? Is it just nerves or is it because everyone believes that they are supposed to be “selling” themselves in the interview? In honesty very few people enjoy the thought of interviews, but it’s part of the recruitment process so there’s no way around it!

We believe it’s all about knowledge, speaking confidently and remember you are your own personal brand - you are unique and brilliant! But don’t forget there is such a thing as being over-confident, you don’t want to come across as a “show off” or “know all/big head” so it’s important to get the balance right and don’t let your nerves overcompensate. Your values, persona, passions and experience is what you need, so the most important thing you can do for yourself when attending an interview is to create your own personal brand.

We believe being able to confidently communicate your own personal brand is key to landing your next job and even advancing your career.

Once you remove the fear of needing to “sell yourself” and replace it with sharing your skills, work experiences and unique personal brand you will likely find the interview process a much less daunting and easier experience! You got this!
