Around 40 clubs, associations and businesses have signed up to exhibit at an open day at Fort Regent that will showcase the vast range of sports, clubs and activities that are on offer at the venue.

As part of Fort for All day, which will take place on Sunday 24th November 2013, representatives from local clubs and associations that use Fort Regent as their base, or utilise the facilities, will offer free taster sessions to help islanders to learn more about what is on offer at the sports and leisure centre.

Jo Mousdale, Fort Regent centre manager, commented:

‘Fort Regent is a hub of activity and a meeting place for thousands of islanders who share a common interest in a particular sport or activity. People are constantly surprised by just how much is on offer here. For forty clubs, associations and businesses to sign up for Fort for All day is an illustration of the important role that Fort Regent plays within the local community.

‘We hope islanders will take the opportunity to have a go at a new sport and activity, perhaps one they have always thought might be interesting or fun. There really will be something for everyone from yoga and jumping fitness to the more traditional gymnastics and martial arts.’

There will also be something for those more interested in Fort Regent’s military history. ‘Fort Regent is a historic site that will celebrate its 200th birthday in 2014, and we are proud to be launching a self guided tour that visitors can take to learn more about the important strategic role it has played in defending the island,’ added Mrs Mousdale.

Fort for All will take place between 10 and 4pm and free parking will be provided. Entertainment will also be provided and extra cafes will be open to offer refreshments.
