FreeVibe’s aim is to develop a diverse community of clubs, athletes, musicians, artists and creatives. They aim to share the FreeVibe spirit of adventure and achievement told through photos, videos, interviews, personal accounts and podcasts. Demonstrating the mental, physical and the spiritual aspects required.
Their goal is to give a spotlight to ‘the hero next door’ – these are people succeeding on the local or world stage, doing great things for charity or who have an insight into an underrepresented culture that deserves to be heard. FreeVibe will deliver timeless stories supported by exceptional photography from established and emerging creatives, all displayed proudly and professionally within a modern minimalist magazine.
Initially focussing on the island’s diverse board and water-sport community, the magazine expanded to incorporate other active sports like rock climbing, mountain biking and combat sports. Their attention is set on activities that push the athlete mentally and physically. The magazine will also direct its lens at food, fashion, wellbeing, art, music and eco-activism.
The magazine is currently set to be quarterly, however the FreeVibe team have developed a companion website, FreeVibe.co.uk, alongside social media channels, which will provide extended content on local events, competitions, music, interviews, podcasts, updates and offers. The magazine is FreeVibe’s flagship product, but their website and digital presence promises to bring it all together with frequent content updates.
With strong connections to the Channel Island Surfing Federation and developing links with other clubs and organisations weekly, they aim to deliver an interesting and vibrant magazine and digital content that engages a broad community. It’s all about bringing awareness to an incredible breadth of activities and opening minds of all ages to what can be done and achieved.
Andy Ozouf, owner at Ozouf Advertising who are publishing FreeVibe said, “The response to the concept has been exceptional on every level, from advertisers to the clubs and individuals we want to feature. The core team who have created the videos, photography and written interviews; John Liot, Liana Summers-Shaw and Jessica Pinel have shown how much can be achieved through passion and a love for spreading good vibes!”
“FreeVibe isn’t just a magazine or a website; it’s a call to action for Jersey to celebrate itself. To hold our friends and clubs in high-regard, shout their successes and support the individuals that make this island so special, honing in on the unity and community spirit that islanders are famous for. Spreading true stories from real people, giving you something tangible and positive to take away whatever the format and giving you the inspiration to do more and be more.”
The FreeVibe brand looks to be synonymous with world-class photography, videography and journalism. The team looked at what was being created in Jersey already and surmised that it was simply a matter of bringing these people together and giving them a fresh creative outlet. The first issue demonstrates this desire to bring creative talent together and the team will continue to reach out and make connections for new contributors and articles.
