Following the launch of the Governments new micro-grant scheme, Connect Me: Connecting Our Communities, which is aimed at funding cultural or physical activities to support Islanders whose mental or physical health may have been affected by the pandemic.

Connect Me: Connecting our Communities will work with Move More Jersey, an initiative by Jersey Sport, by partnering once again with the UK Superhero Series in a Disney Marvel inspired event, to bring the latest virtual Superheroes to Jersey.

The event is aimed at anyone with a disability and their friends and families, as part of a nationwide campaign to highlight everyday superhero powers and inspire confidence. This year’s ‘At-Home’ event is a month-long Superheroes Summer Virtual Street party from 23 July – 20 August.

Participants will remotely join forces with Marvel-themed super teams, where they can choose to run, wheel, swim, push, taste, touch, dance and anything in between towards their personal goal. The participants distances will be collected over the four weeks and added to those of their Marvel-themed team, which each need to cover a whopping 49,500km on a virtual trip around the world over the 28 days. Four Islanders have also been chosen as SUPER leaders after winning a competition with Jersey Sport to lead the Jersey teams.

There are 500 free spaces available and everyone taking part will receive a Super Race Pack containing a Marvel ‘Find Your Power’ medal, t-shirt and finish line tape for free, funded by the Government.

Director for Local Services, Paul McGinnety, said; “We are delighted with the number of applications we have received for the Connect Me initiative. The UK Superheroes Series was a great success last year and we are looking forward to it being even bigger and better this year and supporting an initiative that’s inclusive for Islanders. We look forward to sharing more about the number of other initiatives will be funding over the coming weeks”.

Cristy de Gruchy, Head of Move Jersey added; “We’re delighted to see the return of the At Home Superhero Series event after a successful year last year with thanks to the Government of Jersey for their support once again. We’re delighted to continue to partner with Superheroes Series UK, as this enables us to bring a fully inclusive event to the local community. The flexibility of the format means that regardless of people’s abilities, everyone can be involved. We believe everybody has their own unique SUPERPOWER and so we are very excited to see everyone’s achievements.”
