Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa is helping a local charity support the Island’s businesses dealing with cancer in the workplace.

The AA Five Star St Helier Hotel is hosting Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey’s cancer@work seminar on Friday 25thOctober. 

Michelle Parker, Macmillan Jersey’s Communications and Events Manager, said Due to the increase in the number of working people who are affected by cancer, Macmillan Jersey felt it was imperative that all employees should be supported in the most appropriate way. This one-day seminar for HR managers was designed to provide as many corporate contacts with the tools and resources to support their employees affected by cancer.” 

Macmillan Jersey’s Chief Executive, Lauren Perchard-Rees, who holds a masters in Radiotherapy and Oncology will explain the different cancer treatments, side effects, delayed side effects and do a short training in how best to support those in the workplace with a cancer diagnosis. 

A legal specialist from Bedell Cristin will then review a recent discrimination case and explain what measures businesses can take to ensure they are aligned with the new discrimination law.

The General Hospital’s preventative medicine team will discuss how HR teams can educate their staff on risk factors and how they can lower their risk of developing cancer.

Kate Fitzpatrick, Macmillan Jersey’s Cancer Support and Wellbeing Practitioner, and Anne Pryke, Jersey Cancer Relief’s Chair, will talk about how local charities can assist local people both emotionally and financially.  

Commenting on the event, General Manager Shaun McGachan said“At Hand Picked Hotels, we recognise that so many of our lives are affected by cancer in some way and that’s why we were keen to work with Macmillan Jersey who are doing such a fantastic job ensuring local businesses are supporting Islanders with cancer in the workplace.”
