Jersey businesses are set to battle it out on the St Helier seafront this summer to become champions of the Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Corporate Cup.

Now in its fourth year, the series, which is aimed at all local businesses, sees teams of runners compete in a monthly 5km lunchtime race from April to September.

Organised by Run Jersey, the series encourages a healthy way of life for workers who are often tied to their desk for the day while raising money for Jersey Sports Association for the Disabled (JSAD). Last year £3,000 was donated to local charities.

Chief executive at Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management (CGWM) offshore, Grahame Lovett, said: “We are pleased to continue our support of the Corporate Cup and we are looking forward to another exciting series.

“The event encourages a bit of healthy competition between local businesses and it’s a great opportunity to get out of the office with a team of colleagues once a month to exercise while raising money for a very worthy local cause. We hope to see another fantastic turnout this year.”

The first race of the series is on Wednesday 26 April with the rest of the events taking place on 17 May, 21 June, 19 July, 16 August with the final race on 20 September. Each race starts at the Freedom Tree, alongside the Radisson Blu hotel, and finishes next to Les Jardins de la Mer.

Race director at Run Jersey, Digby Ellis-Brecknell, said: “At Run Jersey we aim to promote running as a healthy and enjoyable activity for everyone and the Corporate Cup is a great team building activity for staff in local businesses to get involved in.

“The event is open to all levels of runner, from experienced to beginner, and we are encouraging mixed, men’s and ladies teams.

“Last year 240 runners entered and we’re hoping for even more teams to compete in the series this year. We are grateful to Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management for its continued support of the Corporate Cup which is a popular event for Jersey’s community of keen runners.”

Made up of four people from the same company, teams will accumulate points from each race with their best three race times counting towards the overall result. There will be prizes for individual performances as well as the most improved team, fastest male and fastest female.
