The Atlantic Hotel is proud to announce that it is supporting Rewild Carbon, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust’s carbon balancing programme.

The programme aims to reduce carbon in the atmosphere by rewilding threatened ecosystems which are rich in wildlife. Their current project is in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil which is one of the most species-rich habitats on the planet, yet only 6% of it remains, in scattered fragments. The team are planting thousands of native trees in order to reconnect the forest and create essential lifelines for wildlife.

In supporting Rewild Carbon, The Atlantic Hotel is now providing the opportunity for guests to compensate for their share of the carbon emissions that the hotel produces during their stay.

Owner and Managing Director, Patrick Burke said:

“Through our accreditation with EarthCheck, the world’s leading benchmarking organisation for sustainability in hotels, we are working hard to reduce our carbon footprint. However, we wanted to do more to compensate for those emissions that cannot be avoided. We are aware that many of our guests are also looking for ways in which they can travel more sustainably and give back to nature.”

“We have carefully calculated the carbon emissions generated by staying in one of our bedrooms for one night. Guests can then balance these emissions through a suggested small donation to the Rewild Carbon programme.”

Dr Lesley Dickie, CEO, Durrell said:

“We are so grateful to The Atlantic Hotel for joining our Rewild Carbon programme and for being the first hotel in Jersey to do so. The hotel is one of our long standing partners, supporting us in a number of different ways and now, as part of Rewild Carbon, their guests are also able to be involved in the story and are truly contributing to a wilder, healthier, more colourful world.”
