HSBC has achieved triple recognition in the European Diversity Awards (EDAs) for its active support and promotion of diversity, both within and outside of the company.

Jersey-based Stuart Barette, Transgender Lead for the HSBC Pride UK Network, and Chair of the HSBC Pride Network in the Channel Islands, has been shortlisted for ‘Role Model of the Year’, while HSBC UK has been shortlisted for ‘Company of the Year’ and the HSBC Pride UK Network (of which the Channel Islands and Isle of Man Pride Network forms a part) has also been shortlisted for the ‘Outstanding Employee Network’ award.

In the last year, Stuart has played a key role in kickstarting a national bank initiative to launch a number of new facilities aimed at offering transgender customers a better, more personal service. He also ensured that HSBC made a bold statement during the Channel Islands Pride 2017 celebration by seeing the bank headquarters’ exterior lit up in rainbow colours for the weekend.

The EDAs, which are in their sixth year, recognise individuals and organisations who have made an outstanding contribution to equality, diversity and inclusion across Europe, including movers and shakers in business, media and politics. The prestigious awards recognise achievement in all areas of diversity: race, age, sexual orientation, disability, gender identity and belief.

Winners will be announced at a dinner at the Natural History Museum in London on Thursday 16th November 2017.

Stuart commented on the Bank’s recognition: “I’m thrilled that HSBC has been recognised for all the hard work we’ve put in to boost diversity both in and out of the workplace. Personally, I am humbled to have also been included and am pleased to have played a part in effecting this important socio-cultural change. The fact we are listed amongst some leading organisations is very positive for HSBC.”

Tracy Garrad, Chief Executive Officer, HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man also commented: “This type of recognition is very good news for HSBC. To deliver value for clients, businesses need to demonstrate both diverse talent and thinking, so equality and inclusion need to be at the heart of an organisation’s culture. This inclusive behaviour within the office has a positive impact on the local community too, which is of utmost importance to HSBC. Supporting and promoting diversity is, very simply, essential in this day and age.”
