Seven members of IFM Group’s management team in Jersey recently attained the Chartered Management Institute Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management. Hilary Arthur, Jonathan Figueiredo, Sam Flambard, Chris Lanyon, Richard Sheppard, Annette Voller and Caron Wallace all completed the full year programme which was run in-house within IFM and focused on their own skills and specialism’s, leadership and management skills, and managing and motivating teams.

IFM has a long history of investing in its people, with training and development a key aspect. The programme was initiated by Linda Pinnock – IFM’s HR Associate Director, and run by Jackie Barette of PP Consulting Limited. All participants attended monthly management training sessions, gave presentations to members of IFM’s Board about themselves as individuals and what they felt they had achieved and how they could apply this for the company’s benefit. They also completed a comprehensive assignment set by the Chartered Management Institute.
“Achieving Level 5 is a real accomplishment,” comments Linda Pinnock, HR Manager. “This programme was by no means an easy task; it was a year-long commitment and took the participants on a journey of discovery about themselves and the business environment in which they operate. In creating this programme, we wanted to help our managers excel in all they do and use their skills and self-discovery to lead high performing teams.”
Linda continues: “IFM Group is a high growth business, building on a 40-year history and operating in a competitive, global marketplace. People are at the very heart of our business and how they use their experience, talents and personalities has a direct impact on the firm’s success. As leaders, they are interacting with clients and other professionals, and managing teams whose clients span every corner of the globe and are hugely varied. We owe it to them to give them every opportunity to succeed and progress.”
The seven managers all have very different roles within IFM, including administration, IT, accounting, investments and operations. They found working together an excellent experience and gaining insight into roles very different to their own. “Their shared vision is for a successful, sustainable future for IFM which they have helped to create and continue”, adds Linda.
Commenting on the programme, trainer Jackie Barette who has 20 years’ experience in training, coaching and mentoring management teams in high growth, change environments, says: "This is a great achievement for IFM Trust and their people, and demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to investing and developing the talent which exists within their business.

Having worked so closely with IFM and the seven managers over the past year, it is evident how much IFM value their people and have them at the heart of the culture. They really are fully committed to maximising this talent; a bespoke Chartered Management Institute programme is a major investment and underlines IFM’s commitment to help their people progress.”
