For the first time the Jersey Table Tennis Association (JTTA) is hosting this year’s British Senior School International Tournament, sponsored by Intertrust. The event, which is in its 43rd year, takes place from Friday 23 June to Sunday 25 June in the Gloucester Hall, Fort Regent.

Seven nations – England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey – play in 101 team matches and 192 singles matches over the course of the weekend.

The players, aged 12 to 18, make up 52 teams and compete in age categories of under 14’s, under 16’s and under 18’s.

Managing Director of Intertrust in Jersey Simon Mackenzie said: "This international event not only showcases local table tennis talent but also provides a great opportunity for the visiting teams and their friends and families to enjoy and experience our beautiful island. The JTTA does a fantastic job at encouraging Jersey’s young people to get involved in this sport. Good luck to all the players taking part this year.”

The president of the JTTA, Audrey Tupper, said: “A competition of this standard is very intense and requires great focus and stamina and we’re thrilled to be able to host the event this year thanks to Intertrust’s sponsorship.

“We are hoping that this event, which will see over 100 junior internationals playing top class table tennis, will inspire even more young people to think about getting involved in the sport.”
