After several years since his last performance on the island, internationally acclaimed blues touring and recording artist Giles Robson returns to Jersey for a special one-off performance at the Royal Yacht on October the 19th. He will be backed by the Steve Mcvay Blues Band – a hand-picked selection of the island’s finest musicians including Matt McManus guitar, Matt Romeril Bass, John Pearce Drums and Rex Moss keyboards. Mcvay, the front man of Jersey’s well known Little Big Band, will open the show with a set of his own with the band.
Expect a night of top notch, dirty electric harmonica driven blues from Robson and this fine band of local musicians.
The last two years have seen Robson rapidly rise through the international blues ranks to see him becoming one of its star performers with busy touring schedule across the world. The buzz started with the release of his highly acclaimed and award “For Those Who Need The Blues”album from 2016 which one over audiences with it’s return to pure electric bar blues delivered with Robson’s original and highly accomplished harmonica style.
Since then he has headlined the majority of the major festivals across Europe and the UK not only with his own band but also his Harp Explosion show presenting legendary players of the Blues Harmonica including Magic Dick of the J Geils Band, James Harman, Billy Branch. He has worked in Russia, Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, Spain, New York, UK, Scotland, Ireland
2018 has seen him become the first UK & European resident blues musicianto be featured on Chicago’s legendary Alligator Records in the storied label’s 47-year history, and only the second artist from outside North America and Canada after Australia’s Dave Hole.
Part of the trio of Grammy WinnerJoe louis Walker, virtuoso keyboardist Bruce Katz & Giles Robsonwith their album “Journeys To The Heart Of The Blues” recorded in Woodstock NY, they have been described by the label as “three blues giants… absolute masters of the form”.
The album due out mid-October 2018 – will see Robson and his harp playing sit alongside an endless list of blues heroes such as William Clarke, Sonny Terry, Johnny Winter, James Cotton, Junior Wells and Robert Crayas having featured on the label – America’s longest running and most successful independent blues label.
2018 was also an incredible year of building upon his reputation of amazing shows and audience reactions major Festivals in France, Poland, Holland, Belgium and the UK Including Kwadendamme Holland, Hook Rock Belgium and San Severino Blues Festival Italy.
