Following the rebrand from Elian to Intertrust Jersey, which was completed in December 2016, Intertrust has boxes full of Elian branded merchandise that is no longer needed. Intertrust saw this as an opportunity to donate the remaining merchandise to three Jersey based charities which can put the leftover items to good use. The items include thousands of notepads, pens, headphones and tote bags.
The three local charities receiving the merchandise are the Bukit Lawang Trust, Jersey Overseas Aid and Mustard Seed.
Managing director of Intertrust in Jersey Simon Mackenzie said: “This is a great opportunity to be able to donate our Elian items that we can no longer use but can be very beneficial to disadvantaged people around the world.
“The three local charities do a remarkable job and we couldn’t think of a better way to repurpose the merchandise.”
The Bukit Lawang Trust will take the merchandise to Indonesia where they support a community whose village was hit by floods. Volunteers from Jersey regularly visit Bukit Lawang and work on various projects in the village including building water wells, rebuilding homes and teaching free English lessons.
The merchandise is also going to help two of Jersey Overseas Aid’s current projects, one in Nepal and another in Rwanda. The charity’s aim is to help reduce poverty and provide humanitarian aid in disasters and emergencies around the world. The merchandise will benefit primary schools with few learning tools.
Mustard Seed is a small charity which works to ease suffering in Eastern Europe by providing opportunities to enable people to become self-sufficient. The merchandise will go into Christmas shoeboxes and be used for the homework club run for disadvantaged young people in Oradea, Romania.
