Two corporate athletes and a junior triathlete have been sponsored by Fairway Group ahead of the 2017 Natwest Island Games.
Fairway Group managing director, Louise Bracken-Smith and trust officer, Jake Michel will compete in the triathlon and basketball events respectively, whilst Ollie Turner has been selected as the group’s up-and-coming sponsored triathlete.
The trio will represent Jersey in their chosen sport in Gotland, which is this year’s venue for the games.
18 year-old Ollie Turner is currently competing at elite junior level in the British Triathlon national super series and is on a performance path for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and 2022 Durban games.
He has been sponsored by Fairway Group as part of their programme to support local people and initiatives that fit the business values of hard work, dedication, focus and disciplined execution.
Louise Bracken-Smith commented: “As a company we endeavor to achieve the absolute best, getting it right first time as a committed service provider and partner and it’s great to be able to support the local community towards a similar objective.
“All of those qualities are evident in Ollie’s dedication to training and his desire to win at such a demanding sport. He has been through the tough times and come out on top by remaining focused and positive; sharing the company values, which have paid off as he has recently qualified for the ITU World Games in Rotterdam.”
Ollie is hoping for a top five finish in the Island Games and Fairway Group are fully supporting him with off Island travel costs and specialist training equipment.
Staff member, Jake Michel, will also benefit from travel costs and time off from the office to compete as part of the Jersey basketball team.
He works within the private client team and part of his role is to support junior staff.
Louise said: “There is a direct connection between leadership and sport in that they share the same principles in promoting focus, discipline and performance in and out of the office.”
She commented: “Physical fitness also fuels mental fitness, which helps staff with increasing work pressures and stress. Having a healthy mind and body has helped me successfully run the business whilst undertaking a punishing training schedule.”
As well as being selected for the women’s triathlon team, Louise has also been chosen to represent Team Ireland in the ITU World Games in Rotterdam.
