Cyclists of all ages and abilities took part in Tour de Jersey at the start of July – putting their best pedal forward for a day of activity and raising valuable funds for the care provided by Hospice. Together 336 participants and their supporters raised £9,000.
The event was proudly sponsored by Ravenscroft for a third year and organisers were delighted to build on the event for 2022, offering a new family-friendly route and a celebratory food and drinks zone at the finish.
Haydn Taylor, Managing Director of Ravenscroft in Jersey, said: “This was Ravenscroft’s third year sponsoring Tour de Jersey and it was the best one yet. It was quite the spectacle seeing so many cyclists head off at 7am and lovely to see children of all ages taking part. Bringing everyone together at the end of the route was something new but everyone seemed to enjoy having the opportunity to meet up and share stories, no matter what distance they completed. To raise £9,000 is brilliant and will mean Jersey Hospice Care can continue to offer the care and support it does to islanders with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Ravenscroft congratulates everyone who took part.”
The cycling routes and logistics were kindly coordinated by Hospice supporter, Ian Williams, owner of the Cog and Sprocket bike shop. The 100km was a welcome ride for the many local cycling enthusiasts and the 50km provided a challenging route for newer cyclists. The 24km and new 7km route, which were both on cycle tracks for the whole ride, welcomed many new faces including beginners and family groups.
Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive at Jersey Hospice Care, said: “We are very grateful to everyone who joined us and helped to make Tour de Jersey a success. From children on balance bikes to experienced cyclists, there was something for everyone to enjoy – and we loved cheering on each participant as they reached the finish. Together they raised valuable funds that will make a tangible difference to the people we care for, a huge thank you goes to everyone involved.”
