With the pennies all counted, the Guernsey Round Table, organisers of Harbour Carnival have announced a record-breaking amount was raised this year.
The event, sponsored by RBC Wealth Management, saw an incredible £28,000 raised, a £3,500 increase on last year’s amount, with 50% going to the main beneficiary – the Guernsey Sea Cadets. The other 50% will be divided up amongst other local charities.
Paul Mooney, Commanding Officer of the Guernsey Sea Cadets said: ‘We are absolutely blown away by this amount. These have been uncertain times for us as we look to secure new premises from mid-October. We are confident that we will find a new home and part of the Harbour Carnival donation will enable this. The remainder will go towards ensuring the Sea Cadets have the right equipment and experiences, to allow us to continue the long tradition of Sea Cadets in Guernsey. We would like to extend an enormous thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible.’
Shaun Gourley from the Guernsey Round Table was also thrilled with the amount: ‘It was such a fantastic night: fabulous support from all those who entered, massive crowds and even the weather was kind to us. Each year we look at ways of bringing something new to the event and we are therefore delighted to have reaped the rewards with this record breaking total. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!’
Alan Pearce, from RBC Wealth Management’s Guernsey Leadership Team, sponsors of the event said: ‘Once again, it was a great evening of fun and just as importantly, an opportunity to raise a significant sum of money for local causes. RBC is proud to continue supporting the Harbour Carnival, and we are delighted that the money raised will be put to good use by the Sea Cadets - an organisation that encourages the personal development of young people.’
