The Channel Islands Aircraft Registry, to be known as 2-Reg, is officially open for business after a successful launch event.

Over 100 people from the world of aviation and aviation-related businesses gathered at the ASG hangar in Guernsey and saw Deputy Kevin Stewart hand over certificates to the first four registered aircraft.

Fergus Woods, Director of Civil Aviation for the Channel Islands said: ‘We’re absolutely delighted to have the Channel Islands Aircraft Registry up and running. This is a genuine working partnership between the States of Guernsey and SGI Aviation, who have been awarded the project on a long-term contract.  With offices at the airport which will eventually be staffed entirely by locals, it’s all good news for Guernsey plc.’

Wim Ovaa, Executive Director of SGI Aviation who was present at the event said: ‘It is really fantastic to see all the months of hard work come to fruition with the introduction of the 2-Reg in Guernsey. We’re offering competitive registration rates not just for local aircraft owners but also corporate business jets, wherever they may be currently registered.

And as a ‘ thank you’ to for welcoming us, until the end of February 2014 we are going to donate the fee to the Channel Islands Air Search for any general aviation owner wishing to purchase a premium registration, helping with the funds required to get the aircraft back up in the skies.’
