JAYF (Jersey Association for Youth and Friendship) is delighted to announce the first of its 2022 Open Gardens, Oaklands, in St Peter. This beautiful garden will be open on Sunday 3rd April by kind permission of the owners.
Oaklands
La Rue d’Elysee
St Peter JE3 7DT
Originally farmland, Oaklands is a rambling garden surrounded by beds containing many specimen shrubs. The beginning of April is a lovely moment to visit when magnolias and daffodils are still flowering, and rhododendron, camellias and bluebells should be on show too. The trees planted by Jurat Bonn include silver birch, acers and what is reputed to be Jersey’s largest walnut. An informal and natural feel prevails throughout. A further highlight is the well-stocked kitchen garden which keeps the family self-sufficient in fruit and veg.
Oaklands will be open from 2pm until 5pm. There will be a one-way system in operation with signposts at nearby junctions. JAYF’s delicious Cream Teas will be served on the terrace and there will be a Tombola. A guided ‘Walk and Talk’ will be led by Neil and Alli Singleton of Birding Tours (Jersey) to further enhance visitors’ experience.
Entrance costs £5; children under 12 free. Regret no dogs. All proceeds go towards JAYF whichsupports independent living in five hostels on the island for young people in Jersey who would otherwise be homeless.
