Jersey Trees for Life and Jersey Freemasons recently announced agreement of a £4,000 grant to cover the local tree charity’s equipment maintenance and repair costs over the coming year. The charity manages various environmental projects including Val de la Mare Arboretum in St Peter and the Alder Collection in St Brelade, all of which require meaningful ongoing attention.

“We’re delighted and very grateful to have received this grant – it makes a real difference”, said Alex Morel, Jersey Trees for Life’s CEO. “Each year we spend around £4,000 with third parties, in order to ensure all our strimmers, chainsaws, handsaws and other equipment are in good shape. Without these indispensable pieces of kit, we would struggle to carry out even the most basic tree care and maintenance, which is just as important a part of what we do as planting trees and hedgerow.”

Head of Jersey Freemasons, Graham Spence, commenting on the agreement said “This grant demonstrates Jersey Freemasons’ commitment to supporting a diverse range of worthy causes in our island. We all see and benefit from the fantastic work undertaken by Jersey Trees for Life, without necessarily realising what happens in the background. We are delighted to support JTFL in this way.”

Jersey Trees for Life announced in April that it would host open tree care and maintenance sessions for volunteers at Val de la Mare Arboretum on the first Friday morning of every month. These sessions run throughout the year, with the charity encouraging people to get involved in helping their local environment.
