The Jersey Heritage membership scheme, kindly supported by Lloyds Bank, has passed a significant milestone of 10,000 members, as more and more Islanders show their support for the work of the organisation.
Jersey Heritage has an overriding responsibility as guardians of arguably Jersey’s most important assets: both the architectural heritage and cultural heritage of the Island. Support from all sectors of the community, and in particular its community of members, is vital for the organisation to fulfil this responsibility.
Since 2011, Jersey Heritage has grown from 600 members to just over 10,000 – approximately 10% of the Island’s population. As well as receiving a number of benefits through their membership, people who sign up to the scheme play a key role in ensuring Jersey Heritage remains in a strong position to continue its work.
Chairman of Jersey Heritage Clive Jones said: “This outstanding show of support is testament to Islanders enjoying and engaging with Jersey’s history, which is exactly what we set out to do when we were established over thirty years ago. As an organisation it is our responsibility to care, protect, promote and act as advocates for the Island’s history and culture and with over 10,000 members behind us, we are able to build upon a strong foundation and work to deliver even more to the local community and visitors to the Island. We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our members for having faith in our mission.”
Working alongside partners at the National Trust for Jersey and Société Jersiaise, Jersey Heritage works to protect and preserve the Islands heritage for future generations. As a charity, it needs more than £2 million per year and over 11, 000 voluntary hours to nurture, protect and animate the Island’s heritage.
Jersey Heritage Commercial Director Jeremy Swetenham said: “We have worked very hard to reach this milestone. We have listened to what the public expect from Jersey Heritage and produced a membership package that reflects how people want to interact with their heritage, and to become part of the stories we tell. Participation on this scale allows us to start planning some exciting new ideas to provide even more for members in 2015. We could not have achieved this incredible success without the support of everyone who works for Jersey Heritage, or without our membership sponsor Lloyds Bank, who have been with us all of the way.”
In 2012, Jersey Heritage introduced the option of monthly direct debit membership payments to make it easier for Islander’s to both engage with and support the organisation. This, partnered with an exciting programme of events for all generations and exhibitions which are free to members, ongoing learning facilities including the Jersey Heritage Scrapbook & Annual and a booklet of discount vouchers, puts value at the forefront for members.
