You can say it with flowers or with chocolates, but nothing says you love someone more than a hand-written note from the heart, which you have taken time and care to craft.

This Valentine’s Day, Jersey Post and De Gruchy have joined forces to help amorous Islanders spread a little love and express their feelings for that special someone.

From Monday 10th until Thursday 13th February ‘Love Notes’ will be available at Jersey Post in Broad Street for Islanders to write their message and drop it in the special St Valentine’s post box. Or, if they wish to take the card home to craft their passionate prose (or poetry!) in privacy, they can stick a stamp on the card and post it using any post box to the pre-printed Love Notes address. Then, on Friday 14th, the cards will be unveiled in De Gruchy’s King Street window in an outpouring of adulation to brighten the coldest and wettest of winters.

The cards, which are free, will also be available in-store at De Gruchy on Valentine’s Day, for those who may have inadvertently forgotten to tell someone that morning they love them. And, of course, it’s important that everyone who sends a card drops a heavy hint to the recipient that they might like to check out the De Gruchy window on Valentine’s Day!

The Love Notes initiative is part of a wider campaign to encourage people to send more personal mail, especially to mark special occasions such as Valentine’s Day. In a world where email and social media are the prevalent ways of communicating, it’s easy to forget the power and importance of a hand-written letter.

Laura Pérez of Jersey Post said ’This initiative is a bit of fun and we hope Islanders will enjoy expressing their feelings in this unique way. What better way to tell someone you love them than shouting about it? Of course, I am sure we will see plenty of pet names from those people who want to keep it cryptic so only the sender and receiver will know which one is for them! The lasting effect of a hand-written note or card should not be under-estimated: it’s personal, it’s great to write and it’s even better to receive.’

At the end of 2013 Jersey Post conducted an Island-wide survey to find out what sort of mail people are receiving and the results showed that most Islanders would like to receive more personal cards and letters.
