Jersey Post staff will be putting on something purple, or something memorable this Friday, 23 September as a mark of respect for World Alzheimer’s Day.
Jersey Alzheimer’s Association is Jersey Post’s chosen charity for 2016, and the organisation has been running and planning various initiatives to help raise awareness of dementia and the work that Jersey Alzheimer’s Association (JAA) provide to people living with dementia and carers in Jersey. Staff are also busy raising funds for the local charity and plan on reaching their £20,000 target by the end of 2016.
In recognition of World Alzheimer’s Day, a company-wide dress down day will see many Jersey Post staff, including postal workers and members of the Jersey Post Board, wearing something purple, or something memorable – this can be something that stands out from the crowd, or that reminds the individual of a significant event in their life. In addition to the dress down, there will be several fundraising events organised including a Meals for Memories event in the Jersey Post canteen and a cake sale of the Jersey Post Bake Off entries to help boost the current fundraising total.
Customers should be advised that although many postal workers will not be in uniform on Friday, they will all still be carrying Jersey Post ID, should customers wish to verify their status as Jersey Post employees.
Mark Blamey, Manager at Jersey Alzheimer’s Association, said: “We delighted to be working closely with Jersey Post as their charity of the year. The team have already put a lot of effort and energy into our partnership, not just to help raise funds, but also to help us raise our profile locally. We’re extremely grateful for their support and look forward to seeing posties dressing down on Friday!”
Catherine Gasston, Marketing Manager at Jersey Post said: “Jersey Alzheimer’s was chosen by staff to be our 2016 charity and we aim to raise £20,000 for them by the end of this year, but of course it’s not always about the funds – awareness is just as important, if not more so. With Friday being World Alzheimer’s Day, we wanted to ensure that our organisation shows its support for dementia and the work that Jersey Alzheimer’s Association provide our local community. We hope that by wearing
something purple, or memorable, that we will help increase awareness locally and encourage people to find out more about the illness, the charity and the great service that the JAA provides locally.”
Customers will also have received a Jersey Alzheimer’s Association newsletter this week that was delivered by Jersey Post. The newsletter, produced by the JAA, highlights services available in the island for people living with dementia and carers, as well as some of the support local individuals and organisations have provided so far this year.
