Jersey Sport Launches Holiday Programme

Jersey Sport are launching a holiday programme, offering a number of sessions for a variety of sports during the school summer holidays. The programme which starts on 24th July will cater for young people in Jersey who want to enjoy sport with their friends over the summer holidays.

The sessions are accessible to all Islanders aged between 5 and 16. Sports include; inflatable football and dodgeball sessions, a junior gym at Fort Regent, fishing at Waterworks Valley and Millbrook Reservoir, squash and racketball, a multi-sport camp at Fort Regent and badminton. The sessions are run by a group of professional coaches who are focussed on getting children active, during the summer holidays and beyond in order to create healthy lifestyle habit.

Previously a States of Jersey function, Jersey Sport has emanated from the Sports Development department, and has been set up to lead, champion and be a greater voice for sport in jersey.

David Kennedy, General Manager for Jersey Sport’s role is to oversee the work of the operational team, who have the responsibility to "inspire and active Jersey."

David says: "Jersey is a wonderful place to take part in sport and leisure. However for many families there are barriers for participation in sporting activities: costs, family circumstances and access to the appropriate resources. Jersey Sport will actively seek to break down these barriers and make sport a more accessible activity for all."

Dan Garton, Community Programme officer, is responsible for developing the community and holiday programmes to reduce the barriers between sport and activity for the Jersey community.

As Jersey Sport's first corporate sponsor and partner, Appleby are committed to supporting Jersey Sport with volunteers for a number of the community projects that the team are  running and has provided financial support to the new operation. Appleby's communications team are also providing communications assistance.
