Two Jersey residents who participated in this year’s Saffery Rotary Walk in Guernsey, won two of the five special awards presented each year following the event.
Eight-year-old Clara Ginnis won the award for the youngest walker to complete the route while Charles Denton (66) won the veteran walker award.
During the recent Rotary District Conference held in Jersey, Clara and Charles were presented with their trophies by Nigel Dorey, a member of the walk organising committee and of the Rotary Club of Guernsey, and club President Mike Le Conte. Patron of the walk, His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey Vice Admiral Sir Ian Corder also sent a personal letter of congratulations and a ‘governor’s medal’ as a special memento of the event.
Simon Milsted, chair of the walk’s organising committee said: “This year was the 21st
walk and every year it seems to get more and more support. We are seeing an increasing number of people visiting Guernsey from Jersey, the UK and further afield to participate in the event and we would love to welcome even more. I would like to congratulate Clara and Charles for their achievements and hope to see them back in Guernsey next year.”
The next Saffery Rotary Walk takes place Saturday, 15 June 2019. Registration will open in December. In the meantime information can be found on the walk’s website www.safferyrotarywalk.comor questions can be sent to info@safferyrotarywalk.com
