The Jersey Association for Youth and Friendship (JAYF), the Jersey based charity that supports young homeless people in Jersey, has received a £10,000 donation, from Jersey Freemasons.
JAYF’s aim is to provide safe, affordable, supervised short and medium-term accommodation to young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 who might otherwise be homeless in Jersey. Currently, it has 5 hostels based in or around St. Helier, offering supervised bedsit or small studio type accommodation for 29 residents. It aims to build a positive environment where issues connected to homelessness can be addressed. The funds donated by Jersey Freemasons will be put towards a project to upgrade the washing, toilet, and shower facilities in one of the hostels.
Alan Binnington, Chairman of JAYF commented “We are very grateful to Jersey Freemasons for the donation. Homelessness remains a real issue in Jersey and, whilst not always visible, it has a significant impact on the well-being of young people in the island. We are very much dependent on donations such as this to fund our ongoing expenses and the maintenance of our properties. This donation will make a real difference to the lives of the young people in our care.”
The Head of Jersey’s Freemasons, Graham Spence said “I am immensely proud that, despite restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the generosity of our members has enabled us to assist JAYF and the vital work they undertake supporting young people. Jersey Freemasons’ commitment to charity is very much community focussed with many long-term associations with local charities.”
