The States of Jersey’s key recent achievements and plans for 2014 are set to be discussed by Jersey’s Chief Minister Senator Ian Gorst at the IoD Jersey branch lunch this month.

At the lunch, taking place at the Grand Jersey on Thursday 12th December, Senator Ian Gorst will review the major achievements of Jersey’s government during the current political term and look ahead to what is on the horizon for 2014.

Senator Ian Gorst was first elected to the States Assembly in 2005 and was elected as Chief Minister of Jersey on 14th November 2011. Prior to that, he was Minister for Social Security, while he also served concurrently as Chairman of the Jersey Overseas Aid Commission. He has also acted as an Assistant Minister in both the Chief Minister’s Department and in the Treasury Department.

An accountant with significant experience in private client, private equity and retail fund sectors, Senator Gorst serves as a Governor at Le Rocquier School and is actively involved in the church. He has a keen interest in overseas development and is an Honorary Fellow of UNICEF UK.

Steven Hunt, Chairman of the Jersey IoD Events committee, said:

“As we come to the end of the calendar year, it’s a good time to take stock of exactly what has been achieved this year by Jersey’s government. It has certainly been another busy year on the political front, both domestically and in terms of Jersey’s place on the international stage. While we have seen a number of successes for Jersey in recent months, there are still undoubtedly some real challenges on the horizon for Jersey’s Council of Ministers. With this in mind, I am delighted that Senator Gorst is able to join us as our guest speaker at our last lunch event of 2013.”

The IoD lunch is on Thursday 12th December at the Grand Jersey and is open to both members and non-members of the IoD. The lunch starts with networking drinks from 12:00pm and finishes at 14:00. Tickets are £25, inclusive of drinks and a two-course lunch, wine and coffee, and can be purchased from the IoD Branch Officer, Kirsten Higgins on 610799 or at jedirector@localdial.com
