Staff at KPMG raised more than £1,100 with a series of fundraising and awareness events for breast cancer charities, which took place throughout October to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, the firm runs regular fundraising events for charitable causes selected by staff.  Breast Cancer Awareness month was nominated as the focus for October by Elaine Painter and Amy Davies, whose families have both been affected.

The month’s events included: a presentation by Miss Painter on her recent charity cycling trip to Kenya for ‘Women v Cancer’; a pink-themed dress-down day; a cake bake; a charity breakfast; a weekly ‘bonus ball’ raffle; and a sponsored leg waxing session, where male staff members volunteered to have their legs waxed for money.

The total amount raised during the month was then doubled by the firm and will be split between Pink Ladies Guernsey and Breast Cancer Care.

Next  month the focus switches to the male staff, with a Movember and MUG (Male Uprising Guernsey) themed month for these prostate and testicular cancer charities.

Tony Mancini, executive director of KPMG in the Channel Islands who is responsible for the firm’s CSR programme said: “As part of our dedication to the local community we pledge to support our staff in fundraising activities. The causes which are closest to our staff are the ones which we focus on.

“Last month the girls put in a huge amount of effort  and subsequently the directors were very happy to match the amount raised.  I have no doubt that the boys will do equally as well this month, with over 20 already signed up for Movember.  A little friendly rivalry between the sexes in the name of charity is no bad thing.   The boys began by gallantly offering up the first day of November to Bright Tights Day giving them a good kick start to their month’s fundraising.”
