Locally-qualified registered jobseekers are being reminded that there is still time to book their place on the JobsFest events scheduled until the end of November. The free events created by the Back to Work team at Social Security are designed to help jobseekers gain new skills and fresh inspiration.
The JobsFest diary of events, which was sent to hundreds of registered jobseekers, contained 67 courses. Demand has been such that extra events have been added and a total of 98 will have been run by the time JobsFest ends on 30 November.
More than 1,400 places have so far been booked on events that include meeting employers from different industries; workshops in CV writing, interview skills and confidence-building sessions.
Social Security Minister Senator Francis Le Gresley said: “JobsFest’s success is demonstrated by the fact that courses are so well attended that we have had to add more. On average, people are booking on to six events and they clearly want to take advantage of the range of support on offer. There are still spaces on some of the courses and I hope that Jersey’s jobseekers continue to be as enthusiastic about the scheme as they have been so far.”
The JobsFest Employer Incentive, under which wages and social security contributions are paid to businesses hiring eligible job seekers during JobsFest, has resulted in nearly 100 locally-qualified jobseekers being placed in jobs. Employers can still claim up to 35 hours’ wages per week when hiring a qualified jobseeker until Saturday 30 November.
“The overall purpose of JobsFest is, of course, to get jobseekers into work,” Senator Le Gresley said. “Employers have had a great incentive to give jobseekers a chance, and many have taken it. There are indications that many will continue to be employed beyond the end of JobsFest, and I hope that it is the start of long-term work for many of them.”
