Local businesses still have time to enter this year’s Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Corporate Cup with three races left in the competition.

The monthly 5km lunch time race series, sponsored by Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management and organised by Run Jersey, is aimed at all local businesses.

A trophy is awarded for the fastest men’s, women’s and mixed teams, as well as the fastest individual performances and most improved team. The teams’ top three races of the six race series count towards the overall standings.

62 teams are currently entered in the competition - a record number for the local event.

“The Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Corporate Cup has grown considerably since its inception three years ago and at the half-way point of this year’s series it’s already achieved a record number of team entries from many different local businesses,” said Grahame Lovett, chief executive of Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management, Offshore.

“With no clear leaders at the moment a few last minute team entries will really add to the excitement of the final three races.”

The third race of the series took place on 22 June. A team from UBS was first over the finish line in the men’s race, with Elian Private Wealth winning the women’s competition and Ogier triumphant in the mixed race.

This year’s series is raising money for Jersey Sports Association for the Disabled (JSAD) to support their work in the local community. £40 from each team entry and £10 from each individual entry will be donated to the local charity, and teams are also encouraged to raise sponsorship money.

Last year £2000 was donated from the event to benefit local charities.

The next race takes place on Wednesday 13 July at 12:45 starting from the Freedom Tree alongside the Radisson Blu.

Race director for Run Jersey, Digby Ellis-Brecknell, said the monthly challenge brings an exciting change to the work day.

“Although competitive, the main aim of the Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Corporate Cup is to get colleagues together to do something a bit different with their lunch time.

“Jersey has a big community of keen runners and it’s great that so many have signed up to compete already. The series welcomes everyone from experienced runners to beginners so we hope to see some more teams take part in the last three races.”
