Les Amis will be taking to the streets of St Helier next week, as part of annual Flag Week. The charity will be greeting members of the public at their stand in West Centre to discuss more about the work they do, raising awareness of the needs of those with learning disabilities.
Residents from Les Amis will join staff members as they talk to Islanders and visitors to the Island, hoping to raise further funds for the charity and providing a voice for those with learning disabilities. Flag Week is an opportunity for charities to personally reach out to the community and for the challenges facing Les Amis and their residents to be heard.
Jason Loveless, Head of Support Services at Les Amis, said: “Les Amis has worked hard to implement and promote a world where people with learning disabilities are valued equally, listened to and can reach their full potential.
“I hope that Islanders will approach this year’s Flag Week with a welcoming attitude. We encourage them to speak with our employees and residents to truly understand the extra challenges people with learning disabilities may face in their day to day lives.”
Les Amis are one of hundreds of charities, individuals and groups who will be holding their own events across the UK to promote their causes as part of Flag Week. The charity is continuing to raise funds to furnish and equip a residential care unit for their residents, the cost of which is estimated at £500,000.
Les Amis will also be selling raffle tickets for their VW California Beach camper van competition from their stand in West Centre. With a limited 5,000 tickets being sold, one lucky individual will win a new camper van worth £50,000, with two runners up receiving cash prizes. Tickets are available for purchase at £20 each, with the draw for the competition taking place at Jacksons showroom on 28th November.
