L'Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa has teamed up with a local charity to help us all stay safe in the sun.
The staff at the AA Four Red Star beachside hotel in St Brelade has this week announced that the Donna Annand Melanoma Charity (DAMC) is their charity of choice for 2018.
The hotel will be hosting a series of mole clinics this year where a team of local doctors will be on hand to examine moles and lesions, along with training sessions for those working in the beauty and tattoo professions. In addition a gala ball is planned to raise funds for the charity working to prevent, protect against and promote the early detection of melanoma in Jersey.
DAMC was established in 2011 following the tragic death of local woman Donna Annand from melanoma cancer at the age of just 29.
Malignant Melanoma is a form of skin cancer, which affects the pigment producing cells (Malanocytes) and often appears as a new or changing mole. It is one of the most common forms of cancer in young adults between 25 and 29.
L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa has more ideas to raise awareness of the disease with a sun safe fun day on the beach this summer with ‘Alan the Mole’, the charity’s mascot, in attendance along with plans to provide mini sun safe hampers for guests of the hotel too.
Commenting on the decision to support DAMC in 2018, Simon Miller, General Manager of Hand Picked Hotels Jersey said, “DAMC is the perfect fit for us as a beachside hotel. The charity does an amazing job raising awareness of the dangers of skin cancer and we’re delighted to partner with them this year. We feel we have a real responsibility to help spread the word both inside and outside the hotel and ensure everyone is enjoying St Brelade’s Bay safely.”
Discussing the partnership, Kerry Petulla from DAMC, said: “We are thrilled that L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa has chosen Donna Annand Melanoma Charity as their nominated charity for 2018. Early detection is vital in fighting this disease, and together we have lots of exciting plans to get this message out to more Islanders and visitors.”
