Locale Grouville has been named Store of the Year by The Channel Islands Co-operative Society for the second year running.
Each year, the Society holds an awards night to celebrate the training achievements of its colleagues and recognise outstanding teams and individuals.
‘Our people are what make The Channel Islands Co-operative Society successful. The service they provide is what our customers remember. Our values are co-operation, openness, passion, empowerment and recognition. So the annual awards are our way of celebrating those colleagues and teams who make the Society what it is,’ said chief executive officer Colin Macleod.
‘The Store of the Year award is the one everyone aims for. Locale Grouville opened in February 2015 so to retain the Store of the Year title is testament to the commitment of every member of the team to be the best they can and embrace all of the Society’s values.’
The store also won the award for the best mystery shopping results and for top performer balanced scorecard.
All three awards for making a difference to the communities in which the Society operates were won in Jersey. The team at Homemaker Jersey were recognised for organising and completing a 12-hour cycle challenge in memory of Kevin Smith who had fitted carpets for Homemaker customers for more than 10 years. They raised nearly £3,000 for the Jersey Hospice and Jersey Cancer Relief.
The acts of kindness team award went to Tony and Louise Le Masurier for their efforts to secure a specific box of chocolates requested by a customer at Grand Marché St Helier, with the individual award going to Charles Smith after a customer came into the Pharmacy Locale at New Era injured and distressed. They needed to go to hospital but had no money for the fare and so Mr Smith paid the fare from his own pocket.
In Guernsey, the actions of two employees of The Channel Islands Co-operative Society were praised for the way they dealt with a crash in the car park of Grand Marché St Sampson’s. Irene Carson and Shaunie Gallienne were named the team winners of the co-operation award for the professional and calm manner in which they handled a five-car crash.
The individual co-operation award was also won by Guernsey. Jane Robert, who works in Pharmacy Locale Smith Street, was praised for the way she supports the team with duties which would not typically form part of her role. Supervisor of the Pharmacy Locale in the Arcade David Northrop won the empowerment award in recognition of the training he has provided his colleagues and those at Queens Road and Smith Street.
