Logicalis Information Security Consultant Alex Colias has recently qualified as an IBITGQ® EU General Data Protection Regulation Practitioner (EU GDPR P), demonstrating Logicalis’ ongoing commitment to helping businesses become more secure and compliant with the upcoming European Regulation.
The introduction of the GDPR will see stronger privacy and data protection laws applied to information relating to EU residents, which is likely to impact significantly on the Channel Islands and those businesses that use personal data relating to EU clients. The Regulation will be enforced from May 2018, allowing companies time to prepare and review the ways they collect and use personal data. Those who do not comply, or who suffer security breaches relating to personal data can expect large fines and damage to their reputation, due to the mandatory breach reporting aspects of the Regulation.
Alex is now one of only approximately 50 EU GDPR practitioners in Guernsey, having obtained the qualification from Guernsey Training Agency’s University Centre. GTA offer courses on GDPR for both those looking to prepare a business to comply with the regulation, as well as for those just looking to understand a little more about its impact.
Kate Sole, Programmes Manager, GTA University Centre said: “We have seen enormous popularity on our GDPR courses recently which is encouraging as it means people are starting to pay attention to the data privacy laws being implemented across the EU and the importance of integrating them into their businesses.”
Tom Bale, Business Development and Technical Director, Logicalis, said: “We fully recognize the importance of educating and preparing our clients for the impact the GDPR may have on their businesses. It is of great importance to Logicalis that our staff are highly trained in this area as we want to remain ahead of the curve in relation to GDPR developments and how the legislation will be practically applied both in Guernsey and globally.”
