Jacksons were delighted to be a part of this summer’s big cycling challenge which has raised a whopping £24,200 so far for islanders living with cancer.
Jacksons sponsored the Mac100 for the third year running, a 100k which saw 261 riders set off from St Clement’s parish hall and pedal their way around Jersey on Sunday 20th August, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey.
Local dad Ricky Marques who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer was amongst those who took on the challenge and single-handedly raised an incredible £7,550 in sponsorship.
This year’s event has raised enough to fund ‘The Oasis’ for six months. Macmillan’s cancer support centre provides emotional, practical and well-being support free of charge for anyone affected by cancer.
Cyclists had the option of using any bike they liked, as long as it wasn’t a fixed wheel, track bike or monocycle to cycle the tough route which involved 1,000m of climbing!
The team at Jacksons made sure everyone stayed hydrated, manning water stops and handing out a Jacksons water bottle whilst the charity’s volunteers were on hand to provide some snacks to fuel them on their way.
Commenting on the event, Andrew Searle, General Manager at Jacksons said, “We were delighted to be a part of the Mac100 for the third year running and to be supporting this fantastic local charity which provides such vital support and wellbeing services for those with cancer, their family and friends.
