Following its two-year £3.85 million refurbishment programme, Maison des Landes, Jersey’s unique hotel for people with disabilities, opened its door to paying guests at the end of June. This week the hotel will also be opening its doors as a Community Hub for local community groups, local charities, disability organisations and individuals. Many bodies have already decided that they will be bringing their members to the Hub ‘for a day out’.

Users of the Community Hub will have the opportunity either to participate in a varied programme of interesting activities or simply meet and chat with friends old and new. Users can also enjoy the large tranquil gardens, a wellness room and an accessible and well-heated indoor swimming pool.

The Hub will be open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11,00 am to 4.00 pm every week from Wednesday 4 October and visitors can enjoy, if they wish, a two-course lunch prepared by the hotel’s chef and his team. Light refreshments will also be available

“We were able to raise the cost of the refurbishment thanks to the generosity in particular of a number of local charitable trusts,” says Peter Tabb, president of the Maison des Landes Trustees, “And we were well aware that what attracted much of that generosity was that once the hotel was functioning we would be opening its extended facilities for the benefit of local people, the disabled, elderly, those with infirmity and the lonely. Our aim with the Community Hub is to provide somewhere special for deserving local people.”
