More than 50 volunteers from Standard Chartered Jersey, including employees, their families and friends, are giving their time to help make sure the 2024 Jersey Marathon is yet another success.

Just as this year’s crop of runners are finalising their training ahead of race day on 6 October, so too are this year’s Marathon volunteers looking forward to making the event – now in its nineteenth year - go smoothly.

Many of those taking part as volunteers have been doing so for many years. Sally Knight works at Standard Chartered Jersey, which has been sponsoring the event for 11 years, is marking her tenth anniversary as a Marathon volunteer this year. She explains why she enjoys being involved in the event:

“I’m responsible for the team of Standard Chartered volunteers, which means coordinating our team of amazing employee volunteers and making sure that all the places that we need to be covered over Marathon weekend are fully manned – from the Marathon Village and Registration Tent right through to the Command Centre and two of the Relay Stations as well.

“The atmosphere on race day is always buzzing and it’s a privilege to see the athletes achieve their goals as they come over the finish line. I particularly enjoy the Marathon Mile, seeing the excitement the children have when they come into the tent to collect their medals.  The whole day goes by in a flash but it is such a great way for our colleagues to come together and support a major community event.”

Henry Baye, CEO of Standard Chartered Jersey, added: “The Jersey Marathon aims to bring people together through sport and create unique stories in different ways, whether you are running, supporting or volunteering. There’s no doubt that our team of volunteers helps make sure race day goes without a hitch and I’m proud that so many of our people volunteer for it each year and approach it with such enthusiasm.”
